Smule has discovered a hardware bug with the multi-touch screen in the iPhone. This bug creates a blind spot when 2 or 3 touches are on the screen at the same time. The following images illustrate the blind spot condition. The red dots indicate user touches, and the yellow dot indicates the blind spot.

As you can see in the second illustration, not hitting the holes exactly will avoid being affected by the blind spot. Update 1.1 of Ocarina provides an optional alternative layout of the holes to help with this issue. The alternative layout can be activated in the Ocarina app settings view.

Grounding your phone will avoid the issue completely and can be done in one of the following ways:
1. Touch the metallic edge around the screen with your skin. (As shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PG8YBVjkzI )
2. Connect the USB cable. (It doesn't have to be connected to your computer.)
3. Connect an audio cable or headphones to your iPhone earplug.
