This application is a fake.
Every time i open it a short message tell me that is "unable to initialize audio" while music is playing or a phone call is active.... and that isn't true.Shame on smule. :!:
Uhh, do you have the iPod playing or are you in a phone call? Do you think that everyone who is singing praises on this app are lieing? It sounds like there is a problem with your iPhone, not with Smule.
Do you happen to be running a beta version of the 2.1 firmware? That seems to cause that error. Just upgrade to the current 2.1 firmware release and it should work. It can also be due to having the ipod part of the phone running at the same time, as Jeremy1026 suggested.

Don't forget to reset your phone after every download of an application.
And remember that things like video backgrounds in Winterboard can do it too! I think that pretty much any app that can run in the background could cause this. I had the probelm and as soon as I turned off my video background all was well. The App works GREAT, btw, and I LOVE IT.
It doesn't work for me either. New ipod touch, installed OCARINA through Apps store and application doesn't give any sound.
When I initialize the ap it gives me the splash screen and then quits after 1-2 seconds. Help?
jclose, I think this app is only for the iPhone, the iTouch doesn't have mic ability (my husband wanted it for his iTouch too). I think that is your problem :(
Harp, I don't know if this will help, but you might try uninstalling the app in iTunes, then eject and do a full reset (hold down the Home & Sleep/Wake buttons PAST the request to power off, until the Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds), then re-connect to iTunes and re-install. Worth a try anyway!

Thank you very much. Makes sense....now.
It would be helpful if the details of the App specifically mentioned that it is iPhone only.
I see on rereading that it does not actually mention ipod.
Perhaps device dependent apps should state just that. It is certainly possible to download AND PAY for it on the pod!!
jclose, you are welcome, sorry though :( Maybe it's time to consider the iphone <g>. You could get one on ebay and as far as I know, you can remove the SIM card and it will behave like an iTouch, but with the added features of camera, speakers, and mic. (Double check that though if you decide to do it, I think I read it on one of the iPhone forums at Apple, someone was upgrading to the 3G and was going to give their 2G to their mom, and she didn't want it as a phone).
This app doesn't seem to work. I've tried everything and watched all the videos.
Is this just a scam? How do I get my money back? Are there other people as frustrated as me who have spent hours of time and not been able to get this to work?
Jim,
The Ocarina is by no means a scam. It is a nearly fully functioning musical instrument. Care to explain what the issue is?

I have the ocarina app as well. It will run, but I can blow till I'm blue in the face and there is no sound!! It's frustrating me!
